FCSB

FCSB is the football company established in 2003 that continued competing in Romania’s top division under the Steaua București name before its renaming in 2017. The tradition it claims originates with the military team founded in 1947 as ASA București, subsequently called CSCA, CCA and Steaua. The separation of football activity from the army club in 1998 and creation of the company in 2003 are distinct stages in the identity dispute. FCSB claims sporting continuity with that history, while CSA Steaua maintains that rights to the historic identity and honours remained with the military club. Romania’s highest court invalidated the private company’s disputed trademark in 2014. The allocation of the 1947–1998 historical record to CSA became final in 2025. These legal questions should be distinguished from continuous participation in competitions and from the presentation of statistics by sporting organisations. During the private company’s period, the team reached the UEFA Cup semi-finals in 2006 and repeatedly entered European group competitions. It won championships in 2013, 2014 and 2015, followed by titles in 2024 and 2025, while the 2020 Romanian Cup was won under the FCSB name. The 1986 European trophy belongs to the disputed Steaua history and is not automatically attributed here to the current company. FCSB primarily uses Arena Națională and is listed in the 2026–2027 Superliga.
