About the club

UTA Arad began in 1945 through the initiative of industrialist Francisc von Neuman. Its original ITA name connected the team with Arad’s textile factories. Flamura Roșie followed during the postwar period, before UTA became the established name in 1958. Red and white colours and the connection with local industry remained central to the identity of the club nicknamed the Old Lady. Its strongest decades produced six national championships and two Romanian Cups. The first league titles came soon after the Second World War, while the last two arrived in 1969 and 1970. In 1970, UTA eliminated reigning European champions Feyenoord from the European Cup. Players such as Iosif Petschovschi and Flavius Domide became associated with the generations that established its national reputation. The modern story includes a legal and organisational break. UTA Bătrâna Doamnă started in 2013 as a separate project from the financially troubled company. According to the consulted account, Suporter Club UTA granted identity rights to the new team in 2014. The older side was excluded by the Romanian federation after failing to attend matches and subsequently disappeared from competition. The present team climbed from county football and returned to the top division in 2020. A new Francisc von Neuman Stadium opened that year. UTA remains in the 2026–2027 Superliga, with its rivalry against Politehnica Timișoara an important regional fixture.
