Dinamo București

Dinamo București was formed in 1948 within the structures of Romania’s Interior Ministry through the reorganisation of Ciocanul and Unirea Tricolor. The Dinamo name and white and red colours became lasting elements of its identity. A first national championship in 1955 was followed by four consecutive titles in the first half of the 1960s. The sporting history attributed to the team includes 18 league championships and 13 Romanian Cups. Its leading European achievements came in two different eras. Dinamo reached the European Cup semi-finals in 1984, losing to Liverpool, and the Cup Winners’ Cup semi-finals in 1990. Both periods produced teams featuring prominent Romanian internationals. Further domestic championships followed after 2000, with the last documented league title coming in 2007. The club also won the League Cup in 2017. The present Superliga side operates through Dinamo 1948 SA. It should be distinguished from the association connected with Nicolae Badea and from the football section of the public Dinamo sports club. Shared names do not make these organisations legally identical, and insolvency does not by itself establish a refoundation or transfer of historical honours. Dinamo suffered its first relegation in 2022 and returned in 2023. Reconstruction of its traditional stadium has required alternative venues, including Arcul de Triumf and Arena Națională. The current team appears in LPF’s 2026–2027 Superliga records.
