FC Voluntari

FC Voluntari was founded in 2010 and entered the third division by taking over Petrolul Berca’s competition place. This beginning is distinct from the older history of Inter Voluntari. The new club initially played in Popești-Leordeni before moving to its ground in Voluntari, known first as Niță Pintea and later as Anghel Iordănescu Stadium. FC Voluntari remained the project’s principal sporting name. Consecutive promotions in 2014 and 2015 carried the team from the third tier to the top division. Its first season at that level ended with survival through a relegation play-off. A much more successful period followed in 2017: Voluntari defeated Astra on penalties to win the Romanian Cup, then beat Viitorul Constanța to claim the Romanian Supercup. The club has not won the national league championship. In 2022 it qualified for the championship play-off and reached another Romanian Cup final, losing to Sepsi. Relegation in 2024 ended nine consecutive seasons in the top division. An unsuccessful promotion play-off against Unirea Slobozia delayed its return, but a further tie against Hermannstadt in 2026 restored its place among the elite. LPF lists Voluntari in the 2026–2027 Superliga. Its record therefore combines the rapid development of a relatively young organisation with two national trophies secured in the same calendar year.
